Reason for Changing Career: Despite a long career in the food and beverage industry, Gary, from Aylesbury, decided that a change of profession would allow him to spend more time with his new family.
Current Status: Gary founded GR Plumbing Services and has had continuous work ever since. With the skills he has learnt, Gary now has the ability and confidence to tackle both small and large jobs – and his business is doing very well.
Gillian Roberts – Age 53 – Previously A Teacher
Current Occupation: Running Her Own Plumbing Business
Reason for Changing Career: Gillian took it in her stride when she got made redundant from her job as a college IT teacher and instead seized the opportunity to try something new. She is now retraining to become a plumber and is ready to prove that it is not just a stereotypical 'male' job.
Current Occupation: Gillian has now set up her own business, with support from the team at New Career Skills, and has named it 'The Lady Plumber'. Most of her work is domestic plumbing at the moment but Gillian is willing to work on-site as well.
Mick Smith - Age 34 - Previously An Engineer.
Current Occupation: Now Owns His Own Plumbing Business
Reason for Changing Career: Mick had enough of company politics, the large work loads and the high stress he was put under. He also wanted a change of direction.
Current Status: Mick is currently only half way through his course. He said he has found the course challenging, but very satisfying. Even though Mick is only half way through the course, he already has orders and work worth over £10,000!
